1860s image: Auckland Museum | Princes Street, unknown photographer, PH-ALB-94-p7-1
Showing the northern end of Princes Street, eastern side. The corner of Waterloo Quadrant (then Waterloo Crescent) is at right.
Faintly seen at far left in the 1860s image is a building with a distinctive veranda that was the old Princes Street Post Office. It seems that no photographs of it have survived, but there is a sketch, attributed to Nicholas Chevalier, several versions of which were published by George Chapman.
