Left of centre (above the shed on the shoreline) is Sir John Logan Campbell's house "Logan Bank"; just right of centre is likely JT Mackelvie's "The Retreat" (single-storey, with veranda). On the skyline, just left of Logan Bank, is a glimpse of the tower of the Supreme Court on Waterloo Quadrant (clumsily retouched unfortunately).
Little had changed in this area since Daniel Manders Beere's photograph of Mechanics and Official Bays in the 1860s (see here for a then-and-now treatment of Beere's picture).
