When he set up his camera on Constitution Hill in 1927 Henry Winkelmann was the latest in a list of photographers who had done the same over the years. Seventy years earlier in 1857 (or thereabouts) it's probable that Hartley Webster had also set up his equipment nearby, looking across a watery Mechanics Bay before reclamation; the picture attributed to Webster is on this site here.
