The date must be 1884 or later, as it was in that year that the Auckland Savings Bank building, seen here at centre, was constructed. (Click here for another image of the Auckland Savings Bank building made around the late 1880s or early '90s by Josiah Martin.) Other dating clues include: references in newspapers to Mason's Hair Dressing Saloon (left of centre) seem to end in 1884, and to J Cosgrove & Co. (at right) in 1885.
