The date must be 1865 or later as in that year the firm of Wayte and Batger, whose signage can be seen at left in the 1860s image) first set up shop at this location in Queen Street (Daily Southern Cross, 23 June 1865, Page 1). The last reference to this business in newspapers of the day seems to be in 1868.
