The Thistle Hotel (at right in the 1865 image) was rebuilt in this location after a fire destroyed its predecessor (farther down Queen Street on the east side) in 1863. Its proprietor, Patrick Darby, would be remembered in the naming of Darby Street (at far right in the 2025 image—it didn't exist in 1865) which is thought to have been created as part of an 1875 subdivision*.
